New York feels like home. When I step onto the sidewalk and the wave of bodies push past. When the smell of pizza mixes with the pollution of the busy streets. The jerk of the subway pulling into the station. The sirens, the horns the talking, the laughing. The bright lights and intimate cafes. The fashion and the rule breaking. The buildings, their structures, their textures. Every inch of New York lures me in. On my second trip to New York never have I felt so drawn to a city. When Jake and I looked at each other, we knew we needed to come back. Better yet….we needed to move here.

This is the story of how Jacob Arnott proposed to me in New York City on Monday 8th July, 2013.
One week before our trip, I had a most vivid dream. I was standing atop the Empire State Building, looking out at the glorious city of New York. The sun had set and the buildings began to light up like shimmering crystals against the dark sky. Beside me, Jacob held my hand as we looked out over the city. His hand trembled as he moved closer to me, and at first I wasn’t sure what was happening. I looked across to peer deeply into his eyes, but instead found nothing. I looked down, to find the man of my dreams on one knee, fingers clutching a ring box, speaking words of the most beautiful and honest that one can imagine. That night I told Jacob about the dream. I told him and laughed a little because “we hadn’t been going out for a year” and it was “crazy”.
