I am a proud Australian.
I don’t have a flag in my front yard and I certainly don’t have the Southern Cross tattooed on my body, but I do get very emotional and proud when I hear a fellow Australian is starting a brand.
I love supporting Australian brands and more importantly, Australian production. I know how expensive it can be but I want to support and nurture the brains behind these brands.
When I heard about a new label starting called TopChick, I got excited. An exclusive, Australian designed and made label for sizes 18-26 I put it in my diary straight away. I took a long drive to the fashion show launch where a huge crowd of family and friends came to celebrate Vicki and her designs.
Click through to see more of the beautiful clothes and to hear about the brand, as I caught up with Vicki to talk about TopChick and what it means for Australian plus size women.
The weather is warming up in Australia and women are looking for hats, flicking through racks for dresses and preparing to hit to grass for a day out at the races. As a plus size woman (who is quite simply in love with the vintage look) taking inspiration from the 1950s can give you look instant glamour.
One thing I find important for Race Season is to think “Will I ever wear this dress again?”. If the answer is no, put it back on the rack NOW! Buy something you love and something you can revamp all year around. Don’t settle for something quick if you don’t love it!
My first look is based around this gorgeous Hawaiian print dress. The silhouette is flattering, with a fitted waist and a full skirt that flows around the hips and legs. It’s halter-neck will keep you comfortable and ‘slip free’ all day and is is cotton fabric means it will breath well under hot conditions. For me, this look is perfect with a gorgeous retro bag (big enough to hide a pair of flats in!) and flashy white heels.
Trashy Diva – Trixie Dress Hawaiian Charm – Available to size XXL – $154.00
Pinup Couture – Red Wicker Purse with Fruit Charm – $78.00
Wittner – Topper Hell in White Lizard – $139.95
Sportsgirl – Sweet Garland in White – $19.99
Equip Accesories – Oval Frame Bead Drop Earrings – $7.99
Recently, I was flicking through a pile of paperwork on my desk when out popped a vivacious and curvy redhead. She was donned in a glorious striped one piece that had me itching to pin curl my hair and slap on my red lippie because it was all kinds of vintage beautiful.
With quick fingers I flicked onto the Internet to check out Beyond the Sea: an Australian brand (designed & made) with a focus of vintage inspired pieces that support. I met up with the brands owner and designer Kylie van Wanrooy and got to know more about this brand of swimsuits for ladies sizes 12-20.
I cannot believe how my style has changed and evolved over the past few months. This time last year I was sticking to my floaty shapes, avoiding pencil skirts and well, the thought of the “peplum” made me cringe. I’m not sure why, but I am loving more than ever to show my waist off and celebrate my body.
In the past year, I’ve taken 25kg off my body and tossed it aside. It’s pushed me to rethink the options in my closet, how to dress for my shape and what makes me feel good. I’ve been sticking to my comfort shade: black. While it may seem ‘Safe’, I feel sexy and fabulous when I wear black. So when Christine from Christine Kardashian offered to send me this fabulous peplum top, I was really feeling great.
